When Robert Welch MBE (1929 – 2000) launched his company in 1955, he did so by setting up his drawing board and a camp bed in a disused workshop in an 18th century silk mill in Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds. From there, he created some of the most famous products in British domestic design, focusing on highly functional, affordable pieces from cutlery and kitchen utensils, to champagne buckets and candlesticks.
